Operational Updates
Fox River Status Update
June 25, 2010
Current Conditions
At 8am, inflows to the Chain of Lakes are 3150 cfs and
appear to be cresting; and outflows at Stratton Dam were
2700 cfs. Fox Lake stage is 4.89 feet. The Fox River
at Stratton Dam tailwater is 3.78 feet,
Forecast
The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of
rain from tonight thru Sunday. Rainfall amounts of less
than ½” are predicted. The river forecast for the Fox
River near New Munster, WI is predicted to fall slowly.
Operations
The sluice gates at Stratton Dam were raised out of the
water on Thursday to pass flows of 3000 cfs. The hinged
crest gate at Algonquin Dam remains at 4’ below the
spillway crest today. Inflows were less than anticipated
so the Fox River and Chain of Lakes are cresting lower
than levels estimated on June 23, 2010. With these gate
operations, yard flooding is occurring in the Chain of
Lakes and along the Fox River downstream of Stratton Dam.
Water levels will remain above the no-wake stage of 3.0
at the Fox River at Stratton Dam Tailwater gage for the
Fox River from Stratton to Algonquin Dams. Because the
Chain of Lakes is above 4.5 and inflows are high, lowering
the gates at Stratton would not be sufficient to lower
the tailwater below 3.0 feet. Flow would go over the
spillway crest at Stratton Dam and keep water levels above
3.0 feet. No additional gate changes are anticipated for
the next several days.
