Operational Updates
Fox River Status
Winter Drawdown
November 1, 2011
Based upon the benefits of winter drawdown as shown by the winter
drawdown study and the current river conditions, the winter drawdown
will proceed as written in the operation guide. Therefore, the winter
drawdown will begin on November 1, 2011 and proceed as planned
concluding on December 1, 2011 with cooperative weather. Absolute
adherence to these dates is not required. If the favorable
conditions persist in the long range forecasts through November and
December, the initial slow rate of drawdown could be maintained such
that the Chain of Lakes could be lowered halfway (0.75 feet) by
December 1, 2011.
The Office of Water Resources will continue to monitor the climatologic
conditions through the month to analyze the current drawdown plan and
could make changes if conditions warrant. A change in the current winter
drawdown plan could occur only if there would be no increased risk of
flooding and/or safety concerns to residents along the Fox River and Chain
of Lakes.
Current Conditions
Inflows to the Chain of Lakes are 500 cfs and falling. The Chain of
Lakes as measured at Fox Lake is at a river stage of 4.18 feet.
Outflows from Stratton Dam are 510 cfs.
Forecast
The National Weather Service is predicting ˝" of rain tomorrow,
November 2.
Operations
In order to facilitate winter drawdown, the gates at Stratton Dam will
be opened to increase outflows to 650 cfs.
