ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS
COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from July 15 to August 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

Ray Norbut Fish & Wildlife Area

68011 - This project entails the salvage of downed and damaged trees that resulted from the April 8, 1999 tornado that impacted the site. The proceeds from the sale of the forest products will be used to enhance the hunting and recreational opportunities at the site. Project was submitted for review on 6-25-99.

Mississippi Palisades State Park

68132 - This project consists of the construction of a left turn lane on Illinois Route 84 at the north entrance of the State Park. Project was submitted for review on 6-30-99.

Anderson Lake

68012 - This project consists of dredging accumulated silt from two drainage ditches that have become plugged and are flooding various areas of the site. The silt will be used to reestablish a berm on the south side of the Carlson lake spillway that has eroded away. Project was submitted for review on 6-25-99.

Anderson Lake

9900153 - This project involves the replacement of 6 deteriorated wooden vault toilet buildings with standard concrete block units. The work will also include approximately 300' of 5' wide sidewalk to access the new buildings. Project was submitted for review on 7-11-99.

Horseshoe Lake (Alexander County)

. 58244 - This project consists of the use of a terrace plow to establish low levees within an agricultural field on the site to create approximately 100 acres of additional wetland habitat. Flooding will be accomplished via rainfall or pumping and stop log structures will be used for water level manipulations. Project was submitted for review on 9-17-98.

William W. Powers

68135 - This work consists of various ADA improvement to the site including: new vault toilets, sidewalks, signage and striping for handicapped parking stalls, installation of removable boat dock with concrete ramp at south boat launch area, and interior modifications to the office restroom. Project was submitted for review on 6-30-99.

Newton Lake

68133 - This project will renovate the existing west side boat access area at the site. The work will include demolition of the existing concrete ramp, construction of a new two lane boat ramp, surfacing of existing gravel parking areas, installation of new restroom, new concrete sidewalks, courtesy boat docks, and security lighting. Project was submitted for review on 6-30-99.

Sam Dale State Park

68134 - This project will repair and resurface existing roads and parking areas within the park. The project will also include replacement of culverts, burial of overhead electric wires around the concession area and replacement of the concession boat ramp. A new gravel parking lot will be built to support use of a recently developed equestrian trail system. Project was submitted for review on 6-30-99.

Hennepin Canal Parkway

9900150 - The Sterling Park District has requested permission to dredge the intake of a boat channel from the Rock River to the boat ramp at Oppold Marina. Approximately 5700 cubic yards of silt will be removed by the contractor, hauled away, and deposited off site. The channel will be restored to its original 6' depth. Project was submitted for review on 7-11-99.

Johnson Sauk Trail

9900152 - This project consists of the renovation of the entire electrical system within the campground to include both primary and secondary service in accordance to current codes. All electrical service will be underground. In addition, camp pads will be graded and shaped with gravel added as needed, 4 ADA accessible camp sites will be constructed, and night lighting will be provided to the vault toilets. Project was submitted for review on 7-7-99.

Cache River

67358 - This project entails the placement of a 70' long,10' wide, 8' deep rock weir constructed of pit run rock at the mouth of an erosion gully which empties an off channel wetland into Dutchman Creek. The height of the weir will be to the elevation of the original backfill level of the meander channel leading to the slough. This weir will restore and maintain the water regime of this wetland to pre-disturbance levels. Project was submitted for review on 6-10-99.

Eldon Hazlet State Park

65445 - This project provides for the improvement and upgrading of existing road and visitor parking facilities within the lakefront cottage area. The existing entrance road will be widened and the ditches will be degraded. All parking areas will be upgraded with a bituminous concrete surface. Project was submitted for review on 4-15-99.

Wolf Lake Wm. W. Powers SF&WA

67446 - This project details field changes to the Burnham Greenway Project to link the bike pedestrian trail, under construction, with a park road in the F&WA. The affected area is approximately 150' x130' in size and will experience clearing, trail surface application, and signage. Project was submitted for review on 6-11-99.

Moraine Hills State Park

63154 - This project is a wetland enhancement activity that will impact approximately one acre of highly degraded sedge meadow on the northeastern perimeter of the site. Activities will include removal of imported extraneous fill, filling of a small excavation with the sidecast soils present, aggressive herbicide treatment of the invasive, exotic reed canary grass, and investigation for the presence of farm drain tiles. Project was submitted for review on 2-26-99.

Beaver Dam State Park

66798 - This project will include the application of RR#3 rip rap along the shore line at the site to help stabilize the bank in front of the concession building and along the lake trail. Project was submitted for review on 5-17-99.

Mautino Fish & Wildlife Area

65905 - This project entails the construction of a wetland mitigation site near Buda a mitigation for the trail project at the canal. The site is a degraded old field that is being overtaken by low quality woody and herbaceous vegetation. Project was submitted for review on 4-29-99.

Donnelley DePue Fish & Wildlife Area

66804 - This proposed project will purchase and install a self contained sewage treatment plant to replace the failed septic system at the site residence. The new plant will measure 10' x 10' x 5' and be placed 10' from the residence. Project was submitted for review on 5-20-99.

Randolph County

67645 - This project provides for the replacement of existing vault toilet buildings at the site. Development items include the construction of four new double unit buildings, concrete sidewalk to each toilet, the demolition and removal of four existing buildings, site grading and drainage improvements, top soil placement, and seeding and mulching of all disturbed areas. Project was submitted for review on 6-18-99.
