ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS
COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from August 15 to September 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

Giant City State Park

9900646 - This project will replace all existing wood privies at the park with standard DNR masonry vault toilets. The toilets will be placed in 15 areas around the park with sidewalks leading to the units from adjacent parking lots. Project was submitted for review on 8-1-99.

Giant City State Park

65444 - This project involves the removal of a silt deposit from a small stream adjacent to one of the bridges within the park along township road 338. Project was submitted for review on 4-15-99.

Kaskaskia River F&WA

60817- This project consists of various accessibility improvements throughout the park to meet the compliance plan for ADA requirements. Included in the work is the construction of accessible parking stalls, courtesy dock, telephone, fishing pier, observation platform, toilets, and hunting locations. Project was submitted for review on 12-8-98.

Horseshoe Lake (Alexander County)

64612 - This project will construct a new access road from Rt. 3 to private property adjacent to Horseshoe Lake. The road, located in an existing crop field, will be approximately 1,125' in length. This road will also provide DNR with management access to the cropfield. Project was submitted for review on 4-5-99.

Illinois Beach State Park

9901474 - This project involves the replacement of existing underground fuel storage tanks by above ground tanks of the same capacity. The existing tanks will be emptied, filled with an inert material, covered, and left in place. Both the abandoned tanks and the new tanks are located in the existing service yard at the site. Project was submitted for review on 8-15-99.

Illini State Park

9900729 - This project will construct a 20 car parking area, erect a 20' x 40' picnic shelter, and maintain an open grass area for field sports in the area known as Ancient Oaks. Project was submitted for review on 8-4-99.

Mississippi River Area

61781 - This project will create an additional 96 acres of floodable habitat at the Godar Refuge Unit. An 11,000 ft. earthen levee with 3:1 side slopes and a 12' top will impound water to an elevation of 428.0 ft. The earth used will come from an existing crop field. Project was submitted for review on 1-6-99.

Hennepin Canal

9900121 - The Izaak Walton League has requested to install four posts serviced by underground electricity for camper use. The work is to be done on ground leased from DNR. Project was submitted for review on 8-2-99.

Illini State Park

990730 - This project entails the abandonment of the existing two lane boat ramp and the construction of a new three lane facility with a 100 space hard surfaced parking area. The project will include ramps, courtesy docks, a short entrance road, toilet, water fountain and security lights. Project was submitted for review on 8-3-99.

Johnson Sauk Trail

9900551 - This project will reconstruct 2.0 miles of interior park and campground roads including 10 parking areas along with their access roads. The work will consist of scarifying the existing pavement, the addition of aggregate material, asphalt treatment, providing positive drainage and stripping. Project was submitted for review on 7-24-99.

Sanganois State Fish & Wildlife Area

49777 - This project provides for the total rehabilitation of the main Phase - 1 levee system at the site. Development items include raising segment of the levee 1-2' , repair and resurface the existing 10' wide aggregate roadway, road extention to river pumps, replacement of three 36" water control/gate stuctures, grading and rip rap. Project was submitted for review on 1-6-98.

Horseshoe Lake (Madison County)

9901379 - An area approximately 1 acre in size immediately south of the site office is dominated by the exotic plant kudzu vine and other plant indicative of highly degraded situations. This project calls for the clearing of this area in an effort to contain and control the kudzu population and reclaim the area to wet-mesic prairie characteristic of the American Bottoms. Project was submitted for review on 9-8-99.
