ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS
COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from September 15 to October 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. These projects do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed.

Frank Holten State Park

57273 - This project was previously approved on 10-21-97 but the location of the vault toilets at two locations were changed. This project was submitted for review on 8-17-98.

Delebar State Park

57027 - Site and District staff have identified 101 trees located in various public use areas at the site that have been termed hazardous to the public and will remove them for safety reasons. The dispersed nature of the individual trees being marked for removal will not constitute forest fragmentation, and the trees will be removed before the beginning of nesting season next spring. The District forester will provide shelter tubes for 75 seedlings that have established themselves at the site and an additional 75-100 larger trees will be planted using site staff under the direction of the District forester. Project was submitted for review on 8-5-98.

Hamilton County

57723 - This project will construct 8 small water holes in the wildlife management area of the site. The sites are old field habitats and the water holes will serve to reduce erosion in gullied waterways. Fill material will be excavated from within the holes. Project was submitted for review on 9-3-98.

Ramsey Lake

57276 - This project will entail the construction of a primitive cabin in the existing campground at the Lake. The proposed site is an existing RV campsite and will disturb an area of approximately 25' x 40' in size. No tree removal is expected with the project. Project was submitted for review on 8-18-98.

Anderson Lake

56284 - A surplus grain bin has been removed from Site M and will be rebuilt on the south end of the site beside the storage building. The bin will be used for seed storage and constructed on a poured concrete pad. Project was submitted for review on 7-20-98.

Atkinson Forest

57275 - The city of Fairfield has requested permission to install a 10" water main on subdivision lots owned by the Department in the city of Fairfield. The site is directly south of the Atkinson State Forest, and disturbance will be on the subdivision lots. Project was submitted for review on 8-18-98.

Fort Massac State Park

57030 - This project will provide for improved barrier free access to three picnic areas, the campground, and the visitor center at the site. Site modifications will include parking lot improvements, new sidewalks, replacement of old wooden pit toilets, new drinking fountains, and modifications to campsites. No tree removal is anticipated. Project was submitted for review on 8-5-98.

Anderson Lake

56283 - Duck's Unlimited funds will be used to make needed repairs to Snipe Marsh in the north end of North Campground. Work will include the cleaning out of silt and the conversion of the one compartment into three compartments (levels) to allow for a more time varied mud flat and habitat environment. Project was submitted for review on 7-20-98.

Anderson Lake

58242 - Region I will construct a 24' x 24' garage at the site residence. The garage will be built at the existing grade with some fill by the house. Project was submitted for review on 9-7-98.

Shabbona Lake

58241 - Fifty feet of shore line will have the rip rap removed and the bank lowered to accommodate smooth Leechfield rock that will allow the concessionaire to pull rental boats out of the water. In addition, two sections of dock will be added to the put-in area. Project was submitted for review on 9-17-98.
