ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS COMPLETED
Project reviews completed from January 15 to February 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

  • Union County Refuge
0100434 - This project includes the demolition of a deteriorating building formerly used as the site office. All materials will be removed from the site and disposed of by recycling and/or disposal of materials at an approved landfill. Project was submitted for review on 1-19-01.

  • Volo Bog State Natural Area
0100303 - This project entails the clean up of a dumpsite located in a ravine at the site. Approximately 90 - 150 cubic yards of scrap metal will be placed into rolloffs or trucks and removed from the site. Project was submitted for review on 1-8-01.

  • Coffeen Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area
0100717 - This project involves the expansion of the parking lot at the Carlock Point Day Use Area. The existing lot will be increased in size by 25 x 50 feet and be covered with CA 6 rock. Project was submitted for review on 1-26-01.

  • Kinkaid Lake
0100813 - This project will stabilize severely eroded shorelines at the lake by placing riprap along the existing shoreline from a barge. Filter fabric will be first anchored to the existing foreslope and the stone will be placed to a height of approximately 36" above normal pool. Approximately 2900' of shoreline is expected to be stabilized with this procedure. Project was submitted for review on 2-1-01.

  • Cache River State Natural Area
0100809 - This project involves the installation of a series of 6-8 riffle weirs in a segment of the river adjacent to Heron Pond. These weirs will restore river bed elevations, eliminate channel incision, and subsequently arrest channel widening that is degrading aquatic habitat and threatening to dewater over 600 acres of off channel wetlands in the vicinity of and including Heron Pond. The weirs will be constructed by placing graded stone across the width of the river. Project was submitted for review on 2-1-01.

  • Pekin Lake
0100811 - The Delta Environmental Consultants, Inc. have requested permission to drill one or more ground water monitoring wells at this site. The borings would be 8" in diameter and extend a maximum 40' below present ground level. After soil and/or groundwater samples are taken, the borings will be either backfilled with native soil, or completed as semipermanent groundwater monitoring wells. Project was submitted for review on 1-31-01.

  • Weldon Springs State Park
0100392 - This project will provide for the construction of a new entrance road, new access roads to Black Locust group camp, the tent/trailer campground and concession and four new parking areas. The material removed for the northern sections of road will be used to construct a dam for a four acre pond/siltation basin. Additional work will include landscaping, removal of two sections of existing road, realignment of three sections of the campground road and the intersection with the old entrance, five new campsites, a campground host site and a new trailer dump station. Project was submitted for review on 1-12-01.

  • Hennepin Canal
0100387 - This project includes the construction of 17 new IDNR standard concrete block vault toilets at the site. Concrete sidewalks will be provided at each of the sites. Also included in the work will be the demolition of 22 existing toilets, grading and landscaping. Project was submitted for review on 1-12-01.

  • Hennepin Canal
0009362 - This project will propose to modify the structure of the bridge at Lock 2. Minor earthwork and trail construction will be necessary to connect the north side of the bridge to the adjacent parking area.. The total affected area is 20' x 50'. Project was submitted for review on 12-13-00.

  • Hennepin Canal
0100390 - This project will include the resurfacing of all of the existing roads and parking areas at the Mautino Fish & Wildlife Area. The project will also include upgrading of existing access drives and parking lots at twelve additional sites along the canal. Project was submitted for review on 1-12-01.

  • Mermet Lake Fish and Wildlife Area
0100302 - This project involves the cleaning of approximately 6000' of Tucker Ditch located at the northwest corner of the site. The ditch is now impeding water flow from the waterfowl area and 1' to 2' of silt needs to be removed. The material removed will be placed on top of the earthen levee which runs parallel to the ditch. Project was submitted for review on 1-8-01.

  • Moraine Hills State Park
0009421 - The objectives of this project, located at the Kettle Moraine Nature Preserve, are to enhance the wetland soils and promote the establishment of a balanced native flora through the removal of aggressive exotic species and the restoration of the area's hydrology. Activities will include the physical removal of the larger diameter trunks and dense stands of woody vegetation, the selective herbiciding of the invasive exotics, and the removal of the extensive system of farm drainage tiles and ditches. Project was submitted for review on 12-22-00.

  • Sangchris Lake
0007303 - This project will involve the placement of rip rap along the shoreline in the Hickory Point Campground for bank stabilization purposes.
