ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS
COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from April 15 to May 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

Dickson Mounds State Museum

57623 - This project involves repairs to 3 parking lots at the site. The Picnic Hill, Eveland Village, and the museum main lot will all require scarification of the existing surfaces, addition of gravel where needed, a 3" asphalt surface treatment, pavement stripping and bumper blocks. Project was submitted for review on 8-28-98.

Dickson Mounds State Museum

65448 - This project involves the moving of historic Waterford School from its present location to a more attractive location that is more central to museum-related activities. Project was submitted for review on 4-20-99.

Kaskaskia River Fish & Wildlife Area

64202 - This project provides for the construction of up to three short levees approximately 50' - 100' in length and less than 4' in height. A 24" stop log water control structure will be placed in each levee. A portable pump will be needed to ensure correct water depth. Project was submitted for review on 3-22-99.

Tunnel Hill State Trail

65904 - This project involves the replacement of the existing bridge spanning a drainage ditch on Rago Road as part of the connection between Tunnel Hill State Trail and the Cache River Wetlands Center. The bridge will be relocated approximately 150' - 200' north of the existing site. Project was submitted for review on 4-29-99.

Peabody River King

65446 - This project entails the installation of approximately 4000' of trenched water lines from the site entrance to the new office/maintenance building that was recently constructed on the site. Project was submitted for review on 4-19-99.

Illinois Caverns

65447 - This project involves the installation of an electrical line to the picnic shelter and changing facility at the site. Work will involve the use of a trencher for a length of 250 yards along a 6' wide corridor. Project was submitted for review on 4-19-99.

Hennepin Canal State Trail

65901 - Under this project the IDOT will replace the existing bridge #6A over the canal with fill and three culverts. The plans call for the three culverts to allow for boat traffic, bicycle, and equestrian traffic. Project was submitted for review on 4-29-99.

Silver Springs State Park

64220 - This project involves the demolition of one existing vault toilet and the construction of a new accessible standard masonry vault toilet building with a sidewalk connection to the existing sidewalks. Project was submitted for review on 3-24-99.

Des Plaines

64221 - This project entails the construction of two new playgrounds within existing use areas: one within the campground and one within the Milliken Lake Day Use Area on the site of a playground which has been removed. At both locations, 5' wide sidewalks will be constructed to connect the playgrounds to existing sidewalks, parking lots, or roads. Project was submitted for review on 3-24-99.

Weldon Springs State Park

64218 - This project will provide a wildlife viewing platform for the prairie area located to the south of the School House at the site. The platform will be approximately 4 to 5' high and have 100' of concrete sidewalk to connect to the existing walk. A ramp will be constructed to the platform. Project was submitted for review on 3-23-99.

Hidden Springs State Park

62858 - This project involves the demolition of the existing house that has been used as the District Forester's office at the site. Project was submitted for review on 2-17-99

Stephen A. Forbes State Park

64845 - This project will include excavation of an area 20' x 60' adjacent to the east side of Rocky Point Beach to be filled with sand to create a new sand volley ball court. Project was submitted for review on 4-8-99.

Chain O' Lakes State Park

64219 - This project will include the following work necessary to keep the existing sewage treatment system in compliance with the IEPA permit and to provide reliable service for the next twenty years. 1) renovate or replace existing influent sewer pipes, 2) build new plant next to the existing one or replace all components, 3) apply epoxy lining to interior of existing 15,000 gallon effluent storage tank, 4) replace pipes, valves, and fittings as necessary, and 5) construct a new 75,000 gallon underground effluent storage tank with associated piping. Project was submitted for review on 3-23-99.

Beaver Dam State Park

64209 - This project calls for the complete rehabilitation of dam and boat access facilities at the site. Work items include: riprap, clearing of the dam areas, back slope grading, borrow area, spillway demolition and removal, berm stabilization, bentonite panel installation, new spillway and sluice gate, in-lake aerators, underground electrical service, new 1 lane concrete boat ramp, floating boat docks, double unit vault toilet, covered fish cleaning station, silt removal, spoil site development, drainage ditch relocation, concrete sidewalks, sewage lift station installation, dump station modifications, water hydrant, security lighting, and landscaping. Project was submitted for review on 3-22-99.

Beaver Dam State Park

64208 - This project provides for the construction of a new picnic shelter with a 20' x 40' concrete floor. The existing parking lot will have 10-12 new spaces added including a handicapped parking space and sidewalk. Project was submitted for review on 3-22-99.

Kankakee River State Park

64846 - This project will involve the removal of debris from a dump site crated by landowners prior to State ownership. The site is approximately 60' x 120' in area. Project was submitted for review on 4-8-99.

Woodyard State Natural Area

64833 - This project entails the demolition of the existing residence house and well house on the recently acquired Rollins property at the site. Project was submitted for review on 4-8-99.

Stephen A. Forbes State Park

64836 - This project provides for the establishment of a fire ring with a series of benches located at the Whippoorwill Picnic/ youth group camp area. Project was submitted for review on 4-8-99.

Stephen A. Forbes State Park

64845 - This project will provide for the construction of a 40' x 30' paved basketball court in the campground 200' west of the shower building. Excavation will be required to a depth of 6" for the base. Project was submitted for review on 4-8-99.

Volo Bog

64514 - This project will expand the existing visitor center parking lot to at least double its current capacity of 53 spaces. Asphalt will be applied on the existing and new lot and wheel stops, striping, and signs will be added. Project was submitted for review on 3-30-99.

North Point Marina

64515 - This project entails the dredging of approximately 25 - 36,000 cubic yards of sand and gravel from inside the north and south breakwaters in the marina. The dredged material will be deposited into the near shore area of Lake Michigan at the south end of the original breakwater where littoral drift will transport it southward to nourish beaches in Illinois Beach State Park. Project was submitted for review on 4-1-99.

Union County Conservation Area

62336 - This project entails the development of 7 new wetland areas at the site. These levees will be created by building low levees across swales in existing agricultural fields. Stop log structures will be used for water level manipulation and flooding will be by rainfall and run off. Project was submitted for review on 1-28-99.

Illinois Beach State Park

62970 - This project involves the removal of 3 underground storage tanks from the site. The tanks will be replaced with 2 new tanks in the same location. Project was submitted for review on 2-19-99.

Peabody River King Fish & Wildlife Area

64522 - This project entail the installation of electrical service to the new office/maintenance building. The services will be installed incorporating both underground trenching and the use of poles. Project was submitted for review on 4-2-99.

Franklin Creek State Natural Area

63160 - The purpose of this project is to stabilize approximately 400' of stream bank along Franklin Creek immediately upstream of Sunday's bridge. The stream at this location is undercutting the bank, causing sloughing and threatening a trail and picnic area. Project was submitted for review on 3-1-99.

Hennepin Canal

64611 - This project involves the installation of approximately 1600' of drainage tile. The work will be done in cooperation with a neighboring land owner that is tiling his crop fields. This cooperative work will help us keep and maintain 3 existing wetlands at the site. Project was submitted for review on 4-6-99.
