ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS COMPLETED
Project reviews completed from April 15 to May 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.
  • Wolf Creek State Park 0103143 - This project involves the placement of 10 to 20 quail covey base camps at various locations within the site. The base camps are designed to provide quail with food, water, and shelter in a framework that will keep predators at bay. Project was submitted for review on 5-1-01.

  • Eagle Creek State Park 0103144 - This project is identical to the project described above at Wolf Creek State Park.

  • Beall Woods 0102733 - This project involves the installation of a new 2400' three-inch water line that will run from the well at the site residence to the new visitor's center. A new 2000 gal. water tank will be installed at the well to store sufficient water to meet park needs. Project was submitted for review on 4-23-01.

  • Tri-County 0102792 - This project entails the realignment of the western and southern side of the west loop trail to avoid impacting a fen/sedge meadow that hadn't been identified previously. The wetland was identified when the proposed Land & Water Reserve boundary was being revised. Project was submitted for review on 4-26-01.

  • Allen Habitat Area 0101881 - This project involves the demolition of all buildings of the Allen area. The buildings include a house, garage, smoke house, grain bin, silo, barn, open shed and a corn crib. Project was submitted for review on 3-8-01.

  • Wild Life Prairie State Park 0102430 - This project involves the expansion of the existing overflow gravel parking area to accommodate approximately 150 cars in addition to 25-30 buses in an effort to relieve parking congestion and eliminate use of restricted areas that are used for parking during special events. Project was submitted for review on 3-30–1.

  • Clinton Lake 0102415 - This project involves the demolition of the existing concrete block hunter check station at the Weldon Access Area. Project was submitted for review on 4-5-01.

  • Clinton Lake 0102414 - As with the project referenced above, this work will involve the demolition of a 21' in diameter by 72' tall concrete silo at the site. Project was submitted for review on 4-5-01.

  • Clinton Lake 0102416 - This project involves the clean up of four old dump sites which were located on the property when leased by the Department. Materials to be removed include old vehicles, farm implements and household trash. Project was submitted for review on 4-5-01.

  • Wolf Creek 0102018 - This projects involves the construction of a transfer station for use by the handicapped. The ramp will be approximately 13' x 40' in size and will be located immediately adjacent to the north side of the parking lot and at the west side of the high water boat ramp. Project was submitted for review on 3-15-01.

  • Rock Island Trail 0102224 - This project involves the installation of tile under the trail by the local land owner in order to connect tile work that he has performed to the east and west of the trail. Project was submitted for review on 3-26-01.

  • I & M Canal 0102734 - This project entails the placement and operation of a 36" natural gas pipeline across the canal north of Channahon. The method of construction will be by open cut and will be adjacent to the recently installed pipeline of Northern Border. Project was submitted for review on 4-23-01.

  • Jim Edgar Panther Creek SF&WA 0101880 - This project involves the planning and development of a 15 mile hiking-biking trail around the Big Lake and a 4.5 mile hiking trail around Drake Lake. Project was submitted for review on 3-12-01.

  • Mississippi Palisades 0102223 - This project involves the construction of a new communications tower for the Illinois State Police. In addition to the tower, a small pre-fab building, fencing, gravel access lane, and some trenching for utilities will be required. Project was submitted for review on 3-26-01.

  • Illinois Beach State Park 0102219 - This project is a revision of a previously approved project. The location of the new 8" sanitary sewer force main has changed slightly where it crosses under the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and the method of disconnecting the existing force main pipe from the municipal sewer has been revised. Project was submitted for review on 3-25-01.

  • Horseshoe Lake (Alexander County) 0101008 - This project involves the demolition and clean up of old and dilapidated structures at the site. The buildings include the Island Residence, West Side Residence and garage, old hunter check station, Sleepy's Tavern, a mobile home and 2 other wood framed residences. Project was submitted for review on 2-6-01.

  • Anderson Lake 9902004 - This project involves the construction of a 5223' levee system at the north end of the lake for waterfowl management and creating 40 more acres of habitat. The 16,000 GPM pump that was removed from the south pump station will supply the water need for the area. Project was submitted for review on 9-14-99.

  • Kaskaskia State Fish & Wildlife Area 0001838 - This project includes the construction of a levee across the mouth of a ditch that connects the backwater slough to the Kaskaskia River and installation of a permanent pump station that will flood both the Carr Bottoms and Jonathon Creek areas in an effort to provide a more stable water source for waterfowl hunting. Project was submitted for review on 3-10-00.

  • Woodyard State Natural Area
    0101882 - This project entails the demolition of all remaining buildings at the recently acquired Scout Camp area. Buildings to be removed include the residence, the maintenance building, the kitchen/dining building, shower building and the training center. Project was submitted for review on 3-8-01.

  • Woodford County SF&WA
    0101875 - This project involves the placement of small quantities of excavated river sediment on the artificial EMP island at the site in Upper Peoria Lake. The sediment will be placed at near in situ moisture content and observed to gain insights as to how well it will perform as island building material. Project was submitted for review on 3-13-01.

  • Washington County Conservation Area
    Mississippi River Area
    Frank Holten State Park

    0102431, 0102437, 0102440 - This project involves the planting of trees at various locations at the sites referenced above. The trees are being provided by the Department of Transportation as part of their mitigation for tree removal that occurred at road and bridge work locations in that region. Projects were submitted for review on 4-5-01.
