ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from April 15 to May 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources, etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that the projects do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act, and cultural resource statutes.

• Des Plaines River Conservation Area 0001997 -This project involves the repair and resurfacing of all existing park roads, the expansion of the boat launch's car-trailer parking lot, the addition of a two-stall parking lot at a vault toilet location, the construction of a new one way access road through the East Hunting Area, the replacement and addition of new drainage culverts, and gates, signage and landscaping as needed. The project will also include the removal of the Old River Road concrete bridge crossing Prairie Creek and the rehabilitation of the historic pony truss bridge crossing Grant Creek. Project was submitted for review on 3-19-00.

• Hennepin Canal Parkway
  0002893 -The Sterling Park District which leases certain tracts of the Canal on the Rock River has requested permission to install a 25' x 20' concrete pad with a 25' x 30' deck south of their existing harbor house to be used as a trailer concession with picnic tables. Project was submitted for review on 4-10-00.

• Kaskaskia Biological Station
  0002924 & 0002925 -These two projects involve the construction of a 24' x 30' flat slab garage located adjacent to the residence parking area and the construction of a 24' x 24' garage/storage building located between the parking lot and existing garage. Project were submitted for review on 4-4-00.

• Prairie Wind State Trail
  0002823 -This project involves the request of a private contractor to temporarily use the abandoned corridor for a haulage road. No work will occur on or to the trail itself and the contractor will make any repairs necessary to return the trail to pre haul conditions. Project was submitted for review on 4-10- 00.

• Pyramid State Park
  0001043 -The Department of Transportation needs to re-align the intersection of Galum Church Road and Ill. Rt. 127. Approximately 6- 7 acres of park owned land will be impacted by the activity. The area impacted is re-claimed strip mined ground that is covered with a mix of warm season grasses. Project was submitted for review on 2-24-00.

• Sangchris Lake SF & WA
  0002898 -The arm of the lake that is used to supply water to a developed waterfowl site has silted in to a point that the portable floating pump cannot supply the amount of water needed or be removed for use at other areas of the site. This project will involve the dredging of this arm to restore its original cross section. The dredge material will be stockpiled on the shore and be used for levee repairs. Project was submitted for review on 3-30-00.

• Lake Shelbyville Wildlife Area
  0001350 -This project will involve the cleaning of a drainage ditch and its extension under the park access road to provide a reliable water supply to Teal Pond. A culvert and water control gate will be added under the roadway. Project was submitted for review on 2- 28-00.

• Wolf Creek State Park
  0001342 -This project will provide for the construction of a shelter in the campground at the site to serve as a meeting area for sportsman groups, schools and campers. Project was submitted for review on 3-2-00.

• Horseshoe Lake Conservation Area
  680 10 -This project entails the removal of excessive silt loads in several drainage ditches to maintain ongoing farming programs at the site. When the silt is removed stop log structures will be installed to allow for controlled flooding after crop harvest. Project was submitted for review on 6-25-99.

• Ramsey Lake State Park
  0001338 -This project will replace the floor of the chute spillway on the dam at the site. The existing concrete chute is cracked and allows water to go under the slab. In addition to the replacement, sediment in the downstream channel needs to be removed. Other improvements will include new steps to access the spillway and gate, new steps or a ramp from the dam to the nearby campground and a new underwater power line to the existing dewatering tower. Project was submitted for review on 2-29-00.

• Frank Holten State Park
  0001989 -This project provides for the construction of a standard 28' x 20' picnic shelter and the construction of a small aggregate parking area connected to the existing gravel access road. A metal gate will be installed across the road to prevent access to the material storage area. Project was submitted for review on 3-17-00.

• I & M Canal State Trail
  0001967 -This project will entail the installation of a new 8" water main to connect to the existing 6" water main at the site. The method of construction and installation will be open cut. Project was submitted for review on 3-21-00.

• I & M Canal State Trail
  0001508 -This project will entail the installation of a 10" water main across the Canal in Ottowa. The casing pipe will be installed by boring and jacking under the south berm and towpath and under Canal Road. The remainder of the main will be in open cut. Project was submitted for review on 3-9-00.
