ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS COMPLETED
Project reviews completed from November 15 to December 15 are listed
below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental
review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered
species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review
process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a
minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria
for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and
may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered
Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands
Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.
- Cache River State Natural Area
0000309 - This project involves the construction of an earthen containment
basin in conjunction with a nearby hydraulic dredging project. An 8'
tall and 310' long dam will be constructed across a ravine immediately
east of the dredging area. Once the dredging project has been completed,
the containment basin will be altered so that it may serve as a permanent
sedimentation basin. Project was submitted for review on 1-5-00.
- South Shore State Park
0108365 - This project provides for the removal of Autumn olive
mechanically using a hydro-ax and follow-up herbicide treatment of stumps
using Garlon 4 or Round-up. The work will be performed during January
and February. Project was submitted for review on 12-12-01.
- Ramsey Lake
0108368 - This project provides for the removal of sediment from
the north end of the lake and the use of the material to construct earthen
berms on either side of the lake and extending into the lake for better
shore fishing access. The large area of sediment is exposed due to the
draw down of the lake for spillway repairs. Project was submitted for
review on 12-5-01.
- Ten Mile Creek SFWA
0102748 - This project involves the construction of four shallow water
wetlands from 2 to 8 acres in size located in existing agricultural
fields at the site. Dams up to 8' in height will be constructed with
heavy earth moving equipment at each location to impound up to a maximum
of six feet of water at the dam. Project was submitted for review on
4-19-01.
- Ten Mile Creek SFWA
0102771 - As with the above work four wetland units will be created
using a levee disk to create levees up to 3' in height and impounding
a maximum of 2' of water at the dam site. Project was submitted for
review on 4-19-01.
- Illinois Beach State Park
0105265 - This project involves the construction of a new concession
building, outdoor dining area, sidewalks, parking lot, and cul-de-sac
terminus at the site. Project was submitted for review on 8-2-01.
- Fort Massac State Park
0104758 - This project involves the reconstruction of the fort to
more accurately reflect the structure from around 1800. In addition,
a new visitors center will be constructed with new interpretive exhibits
and a/v programs. Other improvements include repairs to the existing
sea wall, new sidewalks, new employee parking lot, site lighting, and
a new wooden picket outline of the old French fort. Project was submitted
for review on 7-10-01.
- Des Plaines Conservation Area
0106780 - This project involves the construction of a 25 vehicle
parking lot that will provide access to Frontage Road Pond for anglers
and field trial participants. The lot will have an aggregate surface.
Project was submitted for review on 9-24-01.
- Clinton Lake State Recreation Area
0107657 - With this project three fields totaling 30 acres will
be cleared of low quality woody vegetation that has invaded the area
and a mixture of warm and cool season grassed will be planted to provide
suitable nesting and brood cover. Project was submitted for review on
10-29-01.
- Sangamon Valley Trail
0107658 - This project, submitted for review 11-1-01, provides the City
of Springfield an easement across the trail to install underground electrical
service.
- Hennepin Canal Parkway
0106167 - This project includes the redecking of the tie and rail
area of the old Railroad Bridge #7 to provide safe bicycle and pedestrian
passage along the trail. Project was submitted for review on 8-23-01.
- Hennepin Canal Parkway
0107698 - This project involves an adjacent landowner running an
outlet from a nearby drywell onto the Canal property and outletting
into a drainage ditch that parallels the Canal. Project was submitted
for review on 10-18-01.
- Cypress Pond State Natural Area
0107663 - The Department has just acquired an additional 734 acres
that are contiguous to the original 313 acres at this site and will
be developing two new access areas with parking lots. Project was submitted
for review on 10-30-01.
- Rice Lake
0001975 - This project involves the moving of the existing pump
station for Rice Lake to the old lock station on the south end of Copperas
Creek road. The pump discharge pipe will be cut through the Copperas
Creek access road at the existing grade. Project was submitted for review
on 3-24-00.
- Horseshoe Lake (Alexander Co.)
0107684 - This project will provide for the construction of a 15'
wide by 1800' in length access lane located on dredged spoil on the
south side of Black Creek to provide access for machinery to remove
log jams from the creek that are backing water up onto neighboring private
property. Project was submitted for review on 10-23-01.
- Wolf Creek
0100393 - This project provides for the construction of 17 new IDNR
standard concrete block vault toilets at the site. Concrete sidewalks
