ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS COMPLETED
Project reviews completed from June 15 to July 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

  • Castle Rock State Park
    0204252 - This project involves the removal of introduced trees and shrubs at the overlook. The work is to be coordinated with the replacement of the stairs and viewing platform to limit closure to the public. Project was submitted for review on 6-24-02.

  • Ten Mile Creek SFWA
    0203939 - The project involves the construction of a 15' wide gravel access road south of the village of Belle Rive to allow for the access of equipment by the Illinois Central Railroad that is required to rebuild the trestle adjacent to our property. Other work items will include some grading, minor brush removal, and the installation of a small culvert. Project was submitted for review on 6-24-02.

  • Horseshoe Lake (Alexander Co.)
    0201117 - This project involves the construction of a hiking and biking trail on existing roads at the site. Related work items include gravel overlays on the roads, gravel parking area, culverts, signs, benches and gates. Project was submitted for review on 2-26-02.

  • Mautino State Fish & Wildlife Area
    0203277 - In conjunction with an IDOT road improvement project an old haul road that comes out of one end of the largest lakes at the site is being surfaced to within 5' of the water line in anticipation of the construction of a boat ramp at a future date. Project was submitted for review on 5-17-02.

  • Kidd Lake State Natural Area
    0203488 - This project involves the repair of existing berms on the site by using available spoil in the area. Stop-log structures will be installed in the repaired berms to allow surface water to be drawn into the marsh during high water levels. Project was submitted for review on 5-22-02.

  • I&M Canal
    0201904 - With this project treated lumber will be used to construct 9 canoe docks along the banks of the canal in Grundy County. Project was submitted for review on 3-25-02.

  • Horseshoe Lake (Alexander Co.)
    0202732 - This project will enhance six existing wetlands at the site by drilling new wells to provide a water source during critical times of the year. Small earthen levees will be built on the periphery of the wetlands, or ditches will be plugged to impound shallow water. Project was submitted for review on 4-29-02.

  • Giant City State Park
    0203833 - This project involves the burial of the over head electrical line that provides power to Shelter No. 3. The line is approximately 1400' in length and will be buried in the same alignment that the overhead line occupied. Project was submitted for review on 6-7-02.

  • Giant City State Park
    0203832 - This project involves the replacement of the existing playground equipment at Shelter #2. The new playground will be approximately 35' x 65' in size and have a 5' wide concrete sidewalk extending from it to the shelter. Project was submitted for review on 6-7-02.

  • Mt. Vernon Game Property Center
    0203648 - This is a timber stand improvement project that is designed to improve species diversity in the wood lots. Exotic species will also be removed in the process by using chain saws, herbicides, and burning. Project was submitted for review on 5-31-02.

  • Sangchris Lake State Park
    0203940 - This project involves the construction of a handicapped accessible viewing blind with accessible walkway near the waterfowl refuge abutting Access Area #1. Project was submitted for review on 6-24-02.

  • Clinton Lake
    0102784 - This project involves the creation of a wetland on the upper end of the lake by constructing a 3' to 4' high levee with water control structures along the creek. Minor grading will be conducted to create nesting islands for water fowl. Project was submitted for review on 4-16-02.

  • Starved Rock State Park
    0204137 - This project proposes to reroute a portion of the equestrian trail away from the existing picnic areas, model airplane field, and park roads, onto an abandoned road bordering a tree line and the Vermilion River. The trail will link into the existing trails on the south unit of the Vermilion River Area. Project was submitted for review on 6-25-02.

  • Sangchris Lake
    0104506 - This project will provide for the installation of a 63' x 35' set of play equipment and a 5' wide concrete sidewalk within the Deer Run Campground. Project was submitted for review on 6-27-02.

  • Ferne Clyffe State Park
    0203944 - This project entails various improvements that will provide better access to park facilities for persons with disabilities. Projects include the modifications to building interiors and parking spaces, the replacement of drinking fountains and privies, the paving of existing aggregate paths, and signing. Project was submitted for review on 6-18-02.

  • Illinois Beach
    0200274 - This project involves the installation of 3" stone against the landward side of the existing concrete cube revetment east of the Dunes Trail head parking lots. The new stone will replenish the original splash apron that has been displaced by waves breaking over the revetment. Project was submitted for review on 1-8-02.

  • Hennepin Canal Parkway
    0204339 - This work is an Eagle Scout project that consists of the installation of 3 benches on top of the flood control levee in Milan. Project was submitted for review on 7-2-02.

  • I & M Canal
    0203987 - This project consists of landscape beautification of the canal corridor from the northern property line of the former Texaco Refinery property south to Lemont Road. Project was submitted for review on 5-4-02.

  • I & M Canal
    0200869 - This project consists of the installation of an 8" water main under the canal. The method of construction is open-cut and the main will lie at a minimum of 4.5' below the canal prism. Project was submitted for review on 2-13-02.

  • Sam Parr State Park
    0203929 - This work will entail the improvement of amenities within the site to bring them up to ADA standards. Work items include the replacement of the docking facilities at the boat ramp, replacement of all the existing wooden privies, replacement of the existing play equipment and sidewalks, the electrification of 20 campsites, paving the campsites, and the addition of water hydrants in the campground. Project was submitted for review on 6-11-02.

  • Double T Goose Management Area
    0204149 - This project involves the creation of a series of permanent and seasonal wetlands on a portion of former strip mined land through the installation of a pumping system, control structure, and grading. Project was submitted for review on 6-25-02.

  • Hamilton County
    0203930 - This project provides for various ADA improvements throughout the site. Work items include the replacement of vault toilets and the installation of new concrete sidewalks, play equipment, parking spaces, and water hydrants/drinking fountains. Project was submitted for review on 6-11-02.

  • Sam Dale State Park
    0203945 - This project involves a variety of ADA improvements including building modifications and the installation of day-use amenities such as play equipment at many locations throughout the site. Project was submitted for review on 6-18-02.

  • North Point Marina
    0203931 - This project involves the construction of new pavement adjacent to the existing pavement at the drives south loop in an effort to widen the pavement in this area. One street light pole near the loop's outer edge will be relocated inside the loop. Project was submitted for review on 6-17-02.

  • Kankakee River State Park
    0202729 - This project involves the grading, shaping, and the installation of culverts and stone to improve drainage on the many equestrian trails between the Riding Stable and Rock Creek Canyon. Work also will include clearing the trails of aggressive vegetation and installing new signs. Project was submitted for review on 4-29-02.

  • Horseshoe Lake (Alexander County)
    0300033 - This project involves the installation of a small memorial to commemorate the Lewis and Clark expedition. A concrete sidewalk running from the parking lot to the memorial will also be included in the work. Project was submitted for review on 7-02-02.

  • Ten Mile Creek
    0204336 - This project involves the creation of a 3 mile connecting loop for hiking in the Goshen Trail Unit of the site. Field access lanes, agricultural field borders, existing hiking trail and wooded areas will be used for the loop. Stream crossings will be created with natural rock with one crossing requiring a wooden bridge. Project was submitted for review on 7-02-02.

  • Ten Mile Creek
    0204337 - This project involves the construction of two wetland pools in the waterway of agricultural fields to provide wildlife habitat and control erosion. The pools will be created by grading soil within the pool areas and utilizing stoplog structures for water control. Project was submitted for review on 7-2-02.

  • Ten Mile Creek
    0204338 - This project involves the construction of a field access lane from a site access parking lot to agricultural fields, eliminating a need to cross private land. Small trees and brush will need to be removed and rip-rap will be placed for the crossing of one small drainage area. Project was submitted for review on 7-2-02.

  • Lake Murphysboro
    0204276 - This project involves the installation of a new playground at the Big Shelter picnic area. A 5' x 90' concrete sidewalk will connect with a nearby parking area to provide access. Project was submitted for review on 7-1-02.

  • Banner Marsh SFWA
    0204096 - This project involves the elevating of approximately .5 miles of public access roadway to prevent innundation from high water levels. Approximately 10,000 cubic yards of borrow that will be obtain from areas adjacent to the road will be used in the work. Project was submitted for review on 6-25-02.

  • Eldon Hazlet State Park
    0002891 - This project involves the resurfacing of the existing road system within the Illini Campground at the site. Project was submitted for review on 4-13-00.
