ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS COMPLETED
Project reviews completed from June 15 to July 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

  • Goose Lake Prairie
    0004283 - This project involves the demolition of two single stall toilet units in the Jugtown Road Day Use Area and replacing them with IDNR standard masonry vault toilet buildings. The new units will include sidewalk improvements to allow access by persons with disabilities. Project was submitted for review on 6-14-00.

  • Horseshoe Lake (Alexander Co.)
    0004157 - This project provides for the replacement of old, outdated, and unsafe play equipment at the Spillway Picnic Area at the site. The play equipment will be 65' x 35' in size with a concrete sidewalk, bench, and drainage system. Project was submitted for review on 6-8-00.

  • I & M Canal
    0004152 - This project involves the installation of 3900' of 54" water main along the I & M Canal reserve. The method of construction will be open cut and the work will only occur at one location. Project was submitted for review on 6-2-00.

  • Ramsey Lake
    0002901 - This project involves the replacement of two concrete fords on the internal road system at the site. The at-grade fords will be replaced with box culverts so that the road surface may be raised at this location. Reinforcement of the upstream and downstream approaches will also be needed. Project was submitted for review on 4-10-00.

  • Kaskaskia River SF&WA
    0004163 - This project entails the construction of a 300 yard long levee that will be 5' high with two 24" culverts and gates to create a 15-acre wetland at the site. The area will adjoin Plum Creek and the silt removed from the creek could be used to build the levee. Project was submitted for review on 6-8-00.

  • Des Plaines Game Propagation Center
    0004156 - This project involves the construction of a new office building with asphalt driveway and parking lot, drainage structures, and utility improvements. Also to be erected is a new pre-engineered storage building with an aggregate driveway and service yard. The existing shop building will also be rehabilitated. Project was submitted for review on 6-8-00.

  • Mt. Vernon Game Farm
    0003929 - A section of security fence that is located on a small hill is being exposed due to erosion. This project will involve removing the fence posts, leveling the hill, and replacing the old fence with a new one. Project was submitted for review on 5-20-00.

  • Tunnel Hill State Trail
    0004286 - This project will develop a new paved road crossing the Trail south of Harrisburg. The proposed crossing will be approximately 36' wide with 4' shoulders. A deceleration/turn lane will be built on the adjacent highway to allow for a safer egress into the crossing. Project was submitted for review on 6-13-00.

  • Coffeen Lake SF&WA
    0004159 - A former gravel pit area at the site was recently impacted by an uncontrolled fire. This activity will involve the use of a Vandalia Prison work crew to clear small trees within this area to create openings that would be planted to prairie grasses to improve wildlife habitat. Some food plots would also be incorporated into the clearing work. The trees will be used to build brush piles for wildlife. Project was submitted for review on 6-8-00.

  • Siloam Springs State Park
    0004150 - This project involves the relocation of the existing Hickory Hill water meter approximately 500' to the top of the hill at the campground. An additional 4" waterline will be trenched approximately 620' to the west park boundary. The trenching would follow a dirt access road to an existing hiking trail then cut across an open field to the fence. Project was submitted for review on 6-2-00.

  • I & M Canal State Trail
    0002920 - This project involves the installation of an 8" water main along the north side of Canal Road from Green Street to Old Chicago Road and a 12" water main across the Illinois & Michigan Canal along the west side of Old Chicago Road. The method of construction is open-cut. Project was submitted for review on 4-17-00.

  • Hennepin Canal
    0003299 - This project involves repairs to Aqueduct #4 on the canal. Work items include the cleaning and painting of steel supports, the replacement of all deteriorated steel, the addition of drainage holes, the repair and sealing of all cracked, spalled, and unsound concrete throughout the entire structure, and the removal of debris from around the piers and abutments. The project will also involve the addition of an emergency overflow to Aqueduct #3 and the rehabilitation of Syphon #8. Project was submitted for review on 4-27-00.

  • Sam Parr State Park
    0003928 - This project involves the running of underground electric service lines to 6-8 sites in the campground. Project was submitted for review on 5-26-00.

  • Cave In Rock State Park
    0004151 - This project involves the sale and removal of the existing house at the park site. Project was submitted for review on 5-31-00.

  • Carlyle Wildlife Management Area
    0001339 - Under this project the breeches to Levee D at the site are to be filled in and converted to low spillways. This will allow some water to be held in the unit during waterfowl season so that it can be managed as a hunting area. Material to repair the breeches will be obtain from outside and adjacent to the levee and the breeches will be rip-rapped. Project was submitted for review on 3-2-00.

  • Carlyle Wildlife Management Area
    62975 - With this project a 3' berm with a 4' top width will be developed around field #39 and connected to the pump ditch berm to the south. A stop-log structure will be placed at the present site of the field drainage pipe so that water levels can be manipulated within the field for wetland development. Project was submitted for review on 2-22-99.

  • Goose Lake Prairie
    0002906 - This project entails the surfacing of a portion of the mowed grass trail lying outside the dedicated nature preserve with aggregate to accommodate handicapped visitors. A short segment of new trail construction to form a loop outside the preserve will also be included. Project was submitted for review on 4-14-00.

  • Eldon Hazlet State Park
    0001990 - This project involves the expansion to the Carlyle Sailing Association's Observation building by adding a 24' x 30' addition on the west side. The project will add an additional accessible entrance to the building. Project was submitted for review on 3-14-00.

  • Mississippi River Area
    0003782 - This project will initiate repairs to the existing septic system at the site by installing a new lateral field in front of the HQ building. Project was submitted for review on 5-4-00.

  • Moraine View State Park
    0003344 - The Ellsworth Fire Protection District will install a 3' tall dry hydrant at the lake using 6" PVC pipe. The hydrant will be located 5' from the lake and the pipe will extend approximately 15-20' into the lake. The underwater portion will be covered with rip rap. Project was submitted for review on 5-17-00.

  • Lowden State Park
    0003352 - This project involves the installation of an ADA playground unit comprised of a set of swings, play panels, and climbing platforms within an area of 325' x 65'. A 5'-wide concrete sidewalk will be constructed to link the unit with an adjacent parking area. Project was submitted for review on 5-8-00.

  • Castle Rock State Park
    0003353 - This project is the same as the Lowden State Park project (see above) but will only require an area of 35' x 65'. Project was submitted for review on 5-8-00.

  • Edgar Panther Creek SFWA
    0001050 - The Village of Chandlerville is expanding their water line to the site in order to provide services to the new campground complex, office, and visitor center. The line will be buried 4-5' deep and run 70-120' off of the centerlines of Routes 2 and 11. Project was submitted for review on 2-15-00.

  • Mineral Marsh Nature Preserve
    0003343 - This project involves the fencing of the Nature Preserve. The fencing will be approximately 11,000' long and consist of 4-strand barbed wire. Project was submitted for review on 4-20-00.
