GIT Trail Blazer

 GIT Trail Blazer

Be A Trail Blazer
Taking a long journey will definitely earn you some recognition, that is if you participate in a new program sponsored by the DNRtabbed, GIT Trail Blazers. This is a promotional effort to stimulate use and awareness of the 475-mile Grand Illinois Trail. The program began at the June 3, 2000 Grand Illinois Trail Celebration, an event highlighting National Trails Day and advances in developing the Grand Illinois Trail.

To participate in the Trail Blazer program complete the Grand Illinois Trail and visit all seventeen designated check points, either in a single, continuous trip or in several separate trips.

What do Trail Blazers do?
Trail Blazers should keep a diary, or journal during your trip to indicate the date, and time of day when reaching check points. Included is a sample page which you can use, or create your own!

Jotting down interesting experiences, or taking photographs is always encouraged, but not required.

Send a copy of your completed journal, along with anything else you feel appropriate to Greenways & Trails-Trail Blazer at One Natural Resources Way, Springfield, IL 62702-1271 which is the same address you began with!

What do I get if as a Trail Blazer?
Participants certified as completing the Grand Illinois Trail will be featured in the Green Scene newsletter and willalso receive a t-shirt and certificate.

Perhaps most important, participants will be more appreciative of the diverse landscapes of northern Illinois.
