LOCATION: Ramsey Lake State Park is located one (1) mile north and one (1) mile west of Route 51 from Ramsey, Illinois.

DESCRIPTION: The area has steeply rolling topography which integrates out to gently rolling uplands. Crop fields and food plots are planted for winter food and cover. Small crop fields, brushy draws, and briar thickets provide the flavor which of hunters prefer. Mature oak-hickory forests provide for excellent squirrel hunting.

HUNTING REGULATIONS

  1. All hunters must check in at the office prior to hunting. All hunting is by shotgun or bow only. Squirrel, deer, raccoon, fox, and coyote hunters must obtain a free permit from the park office. This permit must be in possession while hunting. Failure to report harvest by February 15, will result in loss of hunting privileges at the site for the following year.
  2. Check In Time: DOVE: 11:00 AM- 11:30 AM; UPLAND GAME: 8:00 AM -8:30 AM. Daily Hunter Quota: Doves - 30 hunters, (Sept. 1 - 5 a permit is required from Springfield); Upland Game -40 hunters. 40 hunters including advance permits. After Sept. 5th, a daily drawing will be conducted if the standby hunter quota is exceeded at the conclusion of the check in period. No refill after daily quota has been reached.
  3. The PUT N TAKE program for pheasant will run as a fee permit area. The fee will be $23.00 per 2-bird pheasant permit; $31.00 per 3-bird pheasant permit; $38.00 per 4-bird pheasant permit. The program is being run by a concessionaire this year. Advance reservations are available for any day of the week that the area is open. Advance reservations are available by calling T. Miller at 217- 793-6146 or writing him at, P.0. Box 7002, Springfield, IL 62791-7002.
  4. Hunters are required to deposit their hunting license or F.O.I.D. card at the office in exchange for a back patch which must be worn while hunting.
  5. Hunters are not allowed to leave the property without first checking out.
  6. Shotgun Only: Upland Game -Shot Size #5 or smaller ONLY. Doves -Shot Size 7 1/2, 8, or 9 lead or #6 steel
  7. BLAZE ORANGE cap or hat!!!!! vest must be worn while upland game hunting.
  8. The area will be closed to pheasant and quail hunting on all Mondays and Tuesdays during the hunting season. Rabbit hunters may hunt rabbits only on Monday and Tuesday free of charge.
