2014 - 2015 Hunting Season

INTRODUCTION: The area is managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, which is responsible for providing outdoor recreation opportunities for the residents of this State. This area is rolling with steep hills and deep hollows, covered with mature timber of oak-hickory type. The entire area is well supplied with water from springs interspersed throughout the area.

SITE REGULATIONS FOR OPEN PUBLIC HUNTING AREA: (East of Graham Hollow Road - See map for area)

  1. Site hunting permits are required for all hunters.   All  hunters will be required to register on-line at http://dnr.state.il.us/windshieldcard/ and obtain their site permit and windshield card.  All hunters must possess and display the site permit on the dash of the vehicle while hunting.   Hunters will be required to return to this website prior to February 15th each year to record harvest information. Failure to submit data will result in loss of hunting privileges for the following year.
  2. Hunting is restricted to that portion of the park posted as open to hunting. No hunting will be permitted within 300 feet of roadways, developed recreation areas or residences.
  3. All hunting is to be with shotgun or bow and arrow or muzzleloading rifle only.
  4. When hunting, all vehicles must be parked at designated areas only.  Driving on fire trails is prohibited.   No ATV’s are allowed on site.
  5. No night hunting, trapping, target or trap shooting is allowed.
  6. It is unlawful to construct or use any tree stand using nails, screws, wire, or any device which pierces or cuts the bark of the tree. Portable stands may be left unattended from September 15 - January 31 and must be legibly marked with the hunter's name, address, and telephone number. Only one tree stand is allowed per deer permit holder. NO PERMANENT TREE STANDS ALLOWED.
  7. It is unlawful to drive deer or participate in a deer drive on this property.
  8. It is unlawful to possess or consume alcoholic beverages while on site property for the purposes of hunting or trapping.
  9. It is unlawful for unauthorized persons to use or occupy this area during any hunting season when authorized hunting is in progress.

SITE REGULATIONS FOR PERMIT AREAS: (Group Camps - See map for areas):

Spring Turkey Hunting:

  1. Hunters must apply using the Turkey Permit Application available from the IDNR Permit Office in Springfield or online at http://www.dnr.state.il.us/admin/turkey.htm You must select "PMSP" rather than "Jersey County"
  2. 20 hunters per season will be allowed in the entire Special Permit Area (Piasa, Ouatoga and Potawatomi Camp Areas combined). No hunting is allowed on weekends due to occupancy of camps.

Fall Archery Deer Hunting:

  1. Hunting is limited to four seasons, each approximately one week. Season begins the first week day after camps close. Special Permit Area is divided into 3 hunting areas (Piasa, Ouatoga, and Potawatomi Camp Areas).
  2. A total of 72 hunters (6 hunters per area per season) will be selected by a random drawing, held at the Visitor Center on the first working day in April.
  3. Applications are available in March at the visitor center or online at http://www.dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/parks/R4/Peremarq.htm
  4. Season Dates are as follows:

    Season 1 October 27 – November 3, 2014
    Season 2 November 4– November 11, 2014
    Season 3 November 12 – November 19, 2014
    Season 4 November 25 - December 2, 2014

Fall Archery Turkey Hunting

  1. Open to the Special Hunt archery deer permit holders only.

OTHER SITE FACILITIES: Trailer and tent camping, picnicking, hiking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, restaurant and lodging.
