McKinley Woods offers nature
lovers 473 acres of woodlands to enjoy. Bird watching is only one of the relaxing
activities available here. This nature preserve has three picnic facilities complete
with grills. Picnic shelters are available at two of the facilities. Horseshoe
pits are located nearby for the those who enjoy tossing a shoe or two.
Two and a half miles of trail wind through the property providing a peaceful setting for that afternoon walk or cross country workout. Fishing and canoeing are available on the Illinois & Michigan Canal or the Des Plaines River. Both offer a great day of relaxing recreation.
McKinley Woods is situated along the Illinois
& Michigan Canal, providing an additional 61 miles of recreational trail. Hiking,
bicycling, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling are only a few of the activities
one can enjoy along the trail. Family and group camping is also available at
McKinley Woods by permit only.
