Summer and Fall Events - 2007

June 23 - Saturday
Learn how the Native Americans made their dishes at the pottery demonstration. Come see how to shape and mold clay into a bowl or pot that you can take home with you. Meet at the log cabin located next to the Visitor Center at 9:30 a.m.
** Come play volleyball with us. Adults and kids alike are invited to join us in a noncompetitive, fun game of volleyball. Meet at the volleyball net in front of the Pere Marquette Lodge at 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

July 7 - Saturday
Have you ever wanted to learn about bobcats? Come discover the mysteries of the bobcat with us. Meet at the visitors center at 10:00 a.m.

July 14 - Saturday
Join us as we learn about the natural history of the park by hiking along one of the most interesting trails. Wear good hiking shoes and bring binoculars. Meet at the visitors center at 8:30 a.m.

July 14 - Saturday
Nature Scavenger Hunt. Don't miss the fun! If you would like to participate, meet at the visitors center at 1:00 p.m. Separate lists will be available for adults and children.

August 25 - Saturday
Calling all kids! Come enjoy some fun and games. We will have a water balloon toss, scavenger hunt, three legged race and much more! Meet at the visitors center at 10:30 a.m.

September 8 - Saturday
Join us for trail clean up day! Volunteers (individuals & groups) are needed to assist in picking up litter along the trails. Meet at the visitors center at 9:00 a.m. Wear sturdy shoes & if you wish - work gloves. Refreshments & sandwiches will be provided.

September 22 - Saturday
Nature hike for an up-close and personal look at the beauty of the park. Meet at the visitors center at 8:30 a.m. Hike will be approximately 2 miles and last 2 hours.

September 22—Saturday
Nature Scavenger Hunt. Don’t miss the fun! If you would like to participate, meet at the visitors center at 1:00 p.m. Separate lists will be available for adults and children.

September 29 - Saturday

October 5 - Friday
Meet at the visitors center at 8:00 p.m. for a program on owls. After the program we will take a night hike to listen for owls. The hike will be about 2 miles long and a portion of it will be uphill. Join us as we roast marshmallows after the hike. Please bring one flashlight per family. Marshmallows and drinks will be provided.

October 12 - Friday
Nature movies will be shown in the visitors center from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Join us as we roast marshmallows after the hike. Please bring one flashlight per family. Marshmallows and drinks will be provided.

October 13- Saturday
Feeling adventurous? Take a 6 mile hike with us and explore some of the parks most interesting trails. We will walk past creeks, 100 year old trees, and stop at two scenic over looks. Wear good hiking shoes. Bring a snack, a camera, and binoculars. Meet at the visitors center at 8:30 a.m.. We will return approximately at 12:00 p.m.

October 19 - Friday and October 26 - Friday
Awesome Autumn. As the season turns cooler and the colors turn warmer come on a scenic drive with us as the forest blazes with a beauty unique to Pere Marquette State Park. Meet at the visitors center at 2:00 pm. There will be a lottery to decide who gets to ride in the van. The others will follow in their vehicles. We will stop at a restaurant & return back to the visitors center at approximately 7:00 p.m.

October 19 - Friday
Meet at the visitors center at 8:00 p.m. for a program on owls. After the program we will take a night hike to listen for owls. The
hike will be about 2 miles long and a portion of it will be uphill. Join us as we roast marshmallows after the hike. Please bring one flashlight per family. Marshmallows and drinks will be provided.

October 20 - Saturday
Walk through the colors of fall. Take a nature hike to see the brilliant colors and experience the other wonders of nature first hand. Meet at the visitors center at 10:00 a.m. for this 2 mile 2 hour hike. Don't forget your walking shoes and camera!

October 20 - Saturday

October 27 - Saturday
Meet at the visitors center at 6:30 p.m. for a program on owls. After the program we will take a night hike to listen for owls. The hike will be about 2 miles long and a portion of it will be uphill. Join us as we
roast marshmallows and hot dogs after the hike. Please bring one flashlight per family. Marshmallows, hot dogs, and drinks will be provided.

October 27—Saturday
Wild Edible Foods Program
A talk will be given by the park interpreter on the different wild edible foods found in the park, followed by a hike to identify these surprising plants which could be staples of a truly “natural” diet. After the hike we will actually try some of the things we have found. Bring your appetite. Program begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Visitor’s Center.
