Project Status

Annually, the IDNR and FEMA establish a list of counties for which new maps and studies will be prepared.  From start to finish, the process of modernizing flood maps takes approximately 24 months.  Major steps in the process include:  project team formation and consultation; project scoping; digital map and flood insurance study preparation; public review of preliminary maps and the preliminary FIS; response to public comments and, if appropriate, revision of the maps and FIS; distribution of finalized maps and FIS; public notification of revised base flood elevations; and final map adoption by ordinance.
