Just Where was the Union School??
The Union School was built in a grove of oak and walnut trees along
the road between Beason and Chestnut, Illinois in what is now known
as Aetna Township of eastern Logan County. Officially, its location
was a plot of land in the "southeast quarter, section 15, township
19 north, range 1 west."

| If you drive north out of Chestnut
for just under three miles to the second jog in the road, the
school's site will be on your left and looks something like
this (photo taken in the springtime 2001). |

| Now, if you drive south out of Beason for just over
three miles to the first jog in the road, the old school site will
be on your right. From the north, it looks something like this (photo
taken in springtime 2001). |

| Here's what the spot looks like today...no signs whatsoever that
the old Union School was once here educating the children of Logan
County. Its a beautiful and peaceful spot that's now on private
property. |
