Michael L. Woods, Acting Director, Office of Mines and Minerals
The Office of Mines and Minerals is comprised of four divisions: Land Reclamation Division, Division of Oil and Gas, Division of Mine Safety and Training (which through consolidation includes the office's previous Blasting and Explosives Division), and the Division of Abandoned Mined Land Reclamation. Within these divisions, the office regulates mining, and oil and gas operations throughout the State of Illinois. It regulates the possession, use, and storage of explosives and enforces various acts which govern the mining industry. The office is charged with ensuring the health and safety of the thousands of workers in these fields and administers the Abandoned Mined Land Reclamation program. In addition, the office
is involved in an educational outreach program where it educates children and
adults on mining; its products and their uses. The office maintains a trailer
which travels the state to give school children and organizations a museum like
setting to learn about the industry and how its products affect our lives.
