  Alcohol Restrictions

Illinois state parks and recreation areas are frequented annually by millions of visitors, including families, who look to our Department to provide a wholesome atmosphere suitable for picnics and other outdoor activities. Limitations on the use of alcoholic beverages can help ensure that visitors have a safe and enjoyable time at our sites.

It is unlawful for any person to possess or consume intoxicating beverages, including beer or wine, in any Department-controlled property which is posted with signs indicating that alcohol is prohibited. A violation is a Class B misdemeanor and payable through the mail for $75. If a person decides to go to court the punishment can be from 1 to 6 months in jail and/or a fine up to $1,500.
