Location:
Carroll County, 3 miles north of Savanna.
Description:
Total Acres: 2500, Water Acres: 1, Open Acres: 200, Timbered Acres: 2300, Huntable
Acres: 1500.
The vegetative cover of
the area is grasslands, hay fields, and row crops located on ridge tops intermixed
within mixed oak-hickory woodlands. The topography is steep, consisting of unglaciated
ridges. The area is bordered by private lands with timbered slopes and cultivated
valleys and ridge tops.

General Area Regulations:
- Think safety first!
You should be aware that hikers and other non-hunters may be in area.
- Hunting is restricted
to those portions of the area posted as open to hunting, which is east of
the main park road.
- Hunters must park in
designated parking lots. Do not block access to fields or gates.
- Hunting is to be with
shotgun and bow and arrow only. Muzzleloading rifles are permitted during
the statewide firearm season.
- It shall be unlawful
to construct or to use any tree stand that utilizes nails, screws, or wire
or any device which pierces or cuts the bark of the tree on which it is installed.
All tree stands must be portable and be removed by January 31.
- It shall be unlawful
for any person to possess or to consume beer, wine, or intoxicating liquors
while hunting on the area.
- You may not enter a restricted
area or trespass on private land for any reason without first notifying
the park staff or the appropriate landowner.
- You may not possess an
uncased bow or loaded/uncased firearm outside of the designated hunting zones.
- No ground fires allowed.
- All statewide regulations
are in effect.
Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations:
- All spring turkey hunters
must obtain a site specific permit, which will be issued through the Permit
Office in Springfield. Turkey hunters are required to record their harvest
to the park office at 815-273-2731. Permits valid for Carroll Co. will not
be valid at Mississippi Palisades S.P.
- Preference is given to
disabled hunters for three permits in each of the 4 seasons.
- Successful permit holders
must obtain a windshield permit at www.dnr.illinois.gov which must be displayed on the windshield or your vehicle any time you are hunting.
Firearm Deer Hunting Regulations:
- All firearm deer hunters
must obtain a site specific permit, which will be issued through the Permit
Office in Springfield. Permits valid for Carroll Co. will not be valid at
Mississippi Palisades S.P. Permit holders must register and show windheld permit at the park office starting at 5:00 A.M. each day they intend to hunt. windshield permits can be obtained at www.dnr.illinois.gov
- Successful permit holders
will be asked to attend a general site regulation and safety orientation meeting
at 1:00 PM on the Saturday that falls two weeks before the firearm season
opens. Hunters must obtain a windshield card permit at www.dnr.illinois.gov which must be displayed on the windshield of your vehicle anytime you are hunting.
- Stand by hunters must check-in between 6:00 am and 8:00 am each day, stand by permits are $5.00/day.
Archery Deer and Turkey
Hunting Regulations:
- Archers are required
to obtain a free site windshield permit prior to hunting at www.dnr.illinois.gov. Successful archery deer & turkey hunters are required to record their harvest by calling the phone-in system listed on their permit.
- Site permit must be displayed
on dashboard of vehicle whenever the hunter is in the field.
- Hunter must return to website www.dnr.illinois.gov by 2/15 and provide requested information to the site upon the end of hunting for the season.
