Jubilee College Forest Nature Preserve

Location and Access:

From Peoria, take I-74 west to Jubilee College State Park. The preserve is on the east side of the park.

Description:

Jubilee College Forest is located on the northeastern edge of the Galesburg Section of the Western Forest-Prairie Natural Division Significant natural communities include high quality mesic and dry- mesic upland forests dominated by oaks, hickories and maples. Other exceptional features are shale and sandstone seepage outcrops that have allowed for intermittent stream development. The forest provides excellent habitat for wildlife species. Nine species of mammals and eighty-six species of birds, including the veery, have been observed. Jubilee College Forest has largely recovered from past grazing and logging damage.
