Sagawau Canyon Nature Preserve

Location and Access:

From Palos Park at jct. Hwys. 7 & 83 (Calumet Sag Road), take Calumet Sag Road west 6 mile to entrance to Camp Sagawau, then north and east to Camp Sagawau. The nature preserve is to the southeast of the entrance road.

Description:

Sagawau Canyon is located in the Des Plaines River Valley. The preserve has high quality dolomite canyon, cliff and ravine forests of the Morainal Section of the Northeastern Morainal Natural Division. The cliff community supports some of the most unusual and uncommon plants found in northeastern Illinois, including the bulblet fern, purple cliff brake, walking fern, hairy rock cress and ninebark.
